Dr. Aspi B. Surveyor a dedicated teacher, an accomplished academician and a doyen of Oral Medicine & Radiology in India passed away on 3rd of May 2020. It was indeed a very sad day for Oral Medicine & Radiology in particular and Dentistry in general.

Dr. Surveyor graduated from the prestigious Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai and even obtained his Masters Degree MDS in Maxillofacial Radiology from the same institution. He pursued his career as a Full time Teacher at the renowned Government Dental College & Hospital Mumbai and retired as a Professor & Head from the same institution.

He had the opportunity to learn under the legendary Dr. Lester Burket & bagged the coveted DOMD qualification from the University of Pennisylvania USA. As he had a burning desire to teach, he returned to India and rejoined the teaching assignment at GDC H Mumbai.

As a Teacher, he was outstanding and took great pleasure in conducting Lectures for the UG & PG students and he had the skill to make even the most complex topic simple for the average students. His lectures were full of knowledge, wisdom & humour & the class rooms were always full of eager students aware that they were privileged to listen to the Master. He had a phenomenal knowledge of of both Radiology & Oral Medicine and practically knew Burket & Worth by heart. Sir was an impressive orator with a great command over the English language which made his presentations both meaningful & captivating.

As a PG guide he was a Perfectionist and the Dissertation completion under him was a difficult but fulfilling task. As a Head of the department he was strict disciplinarian & yet miraculously compassionate and was loved & respected by one & all.

Being endowed with a razor sharp brain he excelled as a Chess player winning many prestigious tournaments at national level. He was an accomplished poet & dramatist & had won a lot of prizes as a student & even as an academician.

Besides such towering qualities & achievements, Surveyor Sir remained simple & down to earth. He was an affectionate & loving husband, caring father & doting Grandfather.

The Indian Academy Of Oral Medicine & Radiology acknowledges Dr. Surveyor's immense contribution to the subject & the Academy. IAOMR deeply mourns his sad demise and prays to God to give strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
