In the second year of my tenure as the Head Office Treasurer of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (IAOMR), I feel very proud that the editorial team has worked hard to bring about a lot of positive changes in the Journal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (JIAOMR). It is a task well accomplished so far despite a lot of challenges and shortcomings. One of the biggest challenge faced was the high demand of release of hard copies of the journal for the benefit of all fellow IAOMR members.

It makes me feel proud of the fact that the editorial team could achieve the printing of hard copies for free distribution to IAOMR members from 2017 onwards. A difficult yet apt decision taken with the help of our administrative office bearers and editorial board members, was the implementation of INR 4800 as the Article Processing Charges (APC) per accepted article. Implementation of APC had become pertinent considering the increased costs of publication of a journal and the high demand for printing extra copies for free distribution to IAOMR members. It is a fact that the APC charged by JIAOMR is among the lowest in the country. In addition to free distribution of JIAOMR from 2017 onwards, complimentary hard copies of 2 issues of 2016 were also sent to IAOMR members.

Further, the members of the Academy would be happy to know that JIAOMR in 2017 has been accepted for inclusion in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and also has been re-included in Index Copernicus. More good news is that JIAOMR, considered a category-I journal as per the Dental Council of India, is now a University Grants Commission (UGC) approved journal (UGC journal no. 47337).

I believe that, with team effort and hard work, we can reach our goal of making JIAOMR one of the best specialty journal of tomorrow because we care about our work and wish to do it well. I am happy that the editorial team works with all the zeal and strives to improve JIAOMR for the better, issue after issue. Truly, there are several factors that work together for goal-oriented people to succeed, and I am very happy that all the members of the committee are goal-oriented and focused in building a better future for JIAOMR. The untiring efforts of all the office bearers, particularly, our Honorable President, Dr. Gnanasundaram, Honorary General Secretary, Dr. Ravi Kiran, Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Vinay Kumar Reddy and his team, and all the executive committee members, has helped in bringing up the journal to its present level.

Jai Hind!
