With the commencement of my term as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (JIAOMR), from 1 January, 2014, I would like to thank all the members of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (IAOMR) for their confidence in me and for electing me as the Editor-in-Chief of JIAOMR. I understand that I have been given a highly responsible post and I hope I can perform my duties to match their expectations.

At the outset let me apologize for the delayed response from the Editorial Office in bringing out the first issue of 2014. A process that actually began with the first Journal Committee (JC) meeting on 27 October, 2013, has finally taken shape on this day, and I feel elated to write this editorial. As per the directions given by the Executive Committee (EC), the JC called for quotations from publishers, which took a long time, and the publishers sent their proposals at snail's pace. The selection of the new publisher involved repeated reminders to unresponsive publishers, multiple clarifications between the Editorial Office and the publishers, extensive negotiations, and so forth. On 17 February, 2014, the Editorial Office, with the approval of the EC, finalized 'M/S Wolters Kluwer-Medknow' as the new publishers for JIAOMR. Meanwhile the Editorial Board comprising of the JC, Advisory Board, and Review Board was formed, with consent taken from all the constituent members. The 'Online Manuscript Submission System' (OMSS) was online by 6 March, 2014, and the training for using the same was posted by the publisher on 7 April, 2014. In spite of the training received for using the online software (OMSS), using it practically was quite a challenge for newcomers like us. As the French-Algerian Nobel Prize winning author, Albert Camus once said, "You cannot create experience. You must undergo it." That is exactly what the Editorial Team experienced, and we were finally able to release the 'Table of Contents' of the first issue of 2014, along with the new journal website (www.jiaomr.in), at the inaugural ceremony of the National PG Convention held at Bengaluru on 26 July, 2014.

On a personal note, I felt it was a giant exercise. In spite of my frustration on the slow progress, the realization that all good things come at a price made me move forward, with wonderful support and encouragement from the members of the EC and JC. I thank the entire team at Wolters Kluwer-Medknow for handling everything so professionally, right from the creation of the OMSS and website to the publication process. The JC requests all the IAOMR members to support the Journal by, encouraging institutional and individual subscriptions, promoting the journal among the fraternity and persuading advertisements/sponsorships/donations from pharmaceutical/dental/radiographic equipment companies, dental laboratories and dental material suppliers.

The two top-most priorities of the JC are to improve the regularity and quality of the Journal. To achieve these, the JC wishes to request the complete cooperation of all IAOMR members and authors. The authors are requested to submit manuscripts containing original research and rare case reports, as far as possible, so that the Academy (IAOMR) can bring out a journal with a high impact factor. The Editorial Team has made it a point to accept only unique and original content in the submitted manuscripts, so issues of plagiarism do not arise and the journal achieves the highest quality. Authors are also requested to return their manuscripts after technical modification or revision, at the earliest, so that the Editorial Office can maintain the time schedules. The Editorial Team is making every effort to maintain the pre-planned time schedules. In this regard, I, on behalf of the Editorial Team would like to thank you for your patience and perseverance in bearing with us for the time taken, considering the number of manuscripts that are being submitted on the OMSS.

As Diana Athill had rightly quoted in, 'Stet: An Editor's Life', "It was like removing layers of crumpled brown paper from an awkwardly shaped parcel, and revealing the attractive present which it contained". The Editorial Team will endeavor to bring out these 'attractive presents' in the form of an excellent journal.
