XXV National Conference of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology



The XXV National Conference of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (IAOMR) was conducted by the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, King George Medical University, Lucknow, UP. The conference was conducted on 18, 19, and 20 October, 2013, with the theme 'Merging the Boundaries', at the Scientific Convention Center, in the campus of King George Medical University. Six hundred and twenty-nine delegates participated in the conference, including about 169 faculty members. The organizing team comprised of Dr. Ranjit Patil, as the organizing chairman, Dr. Anurag Tripathi, as the organizing secretary, and Dr. Akhilanand Chaurasia, as the Treasurer and Chairman of the Scientific Committee. About 328 scientific articles and 152 posters were presented, which included about 80 articles by the faculty.

The inauguration ceremony of the conference was conducted on 18 October. It was presided by His Excellency Shri. B.L. Joshi, Honorable Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor of the King George Medical University, Mr. J.P. Sharma, Principal Secretary of Medical Education of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. D.K. Gupta, Honorable Vice Chancellor of the King George Medical University, Dr. L. Ashok, President of IAOMR, Dr. T.K. Ramamurthy, Honorary Secretary of IAOMR, and the Organizing Chairman, Organizing Secretary, and Treasurer of the Conference. During the conference, the annual IAOMR awards for the year 2013 were distributed. Life-time achievement awards and mementos were presented to Dr. A.B. Surveyor, Dr. Babu Mathew, Dr. K.S. Ganapathy, Dr. R.N. Mody, Dr. P.G. Agnihotri, Dr. C.V. Mohan, Dr. R Rajendran, Dr. Ann Wenzel, Dr. Phrabhakaran K.N. Nambiar, and Dr. Sanjay Mallya. The conference souvenir was released by His Excellency Shri. B.L. Joshi, Honorable Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor of the King George Medical University.

The distinguished international keynote speakers for the conference were Dr. R Rajendran from King Saud University, Riyadh; Dr. Ann Wenzel from Denmark; Dr. Phrabhakaran K.N. Nambiar from Malaysia; and Dr. Sanjay Mallya from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. The keynote speeches were delivered by seven national speakers - Dr. Shailesh Lele, Dr. R.S. Sathawane, Dr. S. Jayachandran, Dr Mahendra Patait, Dr. N. Kannan, Dr. Anjana Bagewadi, and Dr. Sunita Amrutesh. Preconference courses were conducted on 'Research Methodology and Technique,' by Dr. Neeta Mishra and Dr. Nitin Agrawal, and on 'Dental Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) - A Precious Diagnostic Gizmo of the Maxillofacial Radiologist,' by Dr Mahendra Patait.

XXV Annual General Body Meeting of IAOMR



The XXV Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) of IAOMR was conducted at the Scientific Convention Center, in the campus of the King George Medical University, Lucknow, UP, on 19 October, 2013, after noon. The meeting was chaired by Dr. L. Ashok, President of IAOMR. Around 170 members attended the meeting. The business in the house was carried out in a smooth and cordial manner. One of the important decisions taken at the meeting was to publish only a soft copy of JIAOMR, which could be accessed by the IAOMR members on the journal website, and the hard copies would only be for the institutional/individual subscribers, considering the financial constraints faced by the Journal Committee. The new office bearers for the year(s) 2014-2015 were elected and installed. They are, Dr. Basavaraj S. Kallali as the President, Dr. S. Jayachandran as the President-Elect, Dr. Nitin Agarwal, Dr. Appaji Athota, and Dr. Chaya M. David as the three Vice Presidents, Dr. S. Shiva Prasad as the Honorary Secretary, Dr. M.K. Sunil as the Treasurer, Dr. Anil G. Ghom as the Joint Secretary, Dr. K. Sri Krishna as the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. K. Vinay Kumar Reddy, Dr. T. Ramesh, Dr. Shalu Rai, Dr. Anurag Tripathi, Dr. Abhishek Sinha, and Dr. Vikas Ranjan as the Executive Committee Members, Dr. B.H. Satheesha Reddy as the Registered Office Secretary, and Dr. Shivu M.E. as the Registered Office Treasurer.

Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Award for Paper Publication in National and International Journals (APPNIJ) with a high impact factor

Dr. Sunali Khanna, Assistant Professor from the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai, received the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) Award for Paper Publication in National and International Journals (APPNIJ), AY 2013-2014, with a high impact factor. This award was presented to her by MUHS for her publication of her research article titled, 'Trace elements (Copper, Zinc, Selenium, and Molybdenum) as markers in oral submucous fibrosis and oral squamous cell carcinoma', in the 'Journal of Trace Elements, Medicine, and Biology,' with an impact factor of 1.683. This award, presented to her in December 2013, carried a cash reward of Rs. 5000/-.
